About the Scholarship

The Bernard “Buster” Brown Legacy Scholarship was created to honor a leader who brought passion, humor, and heart to the 9-1-1 profession. His impact on the public safety communications community continues through those who show up, give their all, and push this profession forward.

This scholarship exists to support telecommunicators and public safety professionals who are committed to growth, leadership, and making a lasting impact—both in their centers and beyond.

Scholarship Overview

This is a year-round scholarship program. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed monthly by the Gold Line Support team.

Scholarship funding is intended to support:

• Conference attendance

• Professional development and training courses

• Leadership and advancement opportunities within public safety communications

Scholarship Guidelines

• Applications are reviewed monthly

• Awards are based on:

  • Demonstrated passion for the profession

  • Commitment to growth and development

  • Potential impact on their agency and community

• Not all applicants will be selected each cycle

• Funding amounts may vary based on need and available sponsorships

• Funds may be distributed directly to the event/training provider or as reimbursement (case dependent)

Eligibility Requirements

The Bernard “Buster” Brown Legacy Scholarship is open to individuals who are committed to growth and impact within the public safety communications profession.

• Be currently working in, or actively pursuing, a role in public safety communications (9-1-1, dispatch, emergency communications, or related field)

• Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and continued learning

• Show a passion for the profession and a desire to make a positive impact

• Be able to clearly articulate how the opportunity will benefit their growth and their agency or community
